World premiere of ‘His Day is Done’, August 2016

In August 2016, TwoTone produced and directed another first for the Bay! Professor Ed Sarath, a renowned composer and jazz educator from Michigan, USA, collaborated with Gareth and Ulagh Williams in staging the world premiere of his composition ‘His Day is Done’, a majestic work dedicated to the life of Nelson Mandela and based on a poem by Maya Angelou. The TwoTone Band joined the NMU Wind Symphony and a specially selected choir on stage for a concert that broke down conventional barriers by combining a jazz quartet, voices and an orchestra. Ed Sarath and Ulagh Williams also led a jazz ensemble which performed original tunes by both artists, as well as works by other local jazz composers, Erroll Cuddumbey and Kyle Du Preez.
